Pottstown Schools Invites Parents of Young Kids - The Mercury Digital Notebook - 10/29/16
The Pottstown School District wants to hear from Pottstown families with children elementary age and younger, what they need to better connect with other families, the schools and the community.

Families are invited to get connected at a new series of Let’s Talk community conversations.
 
Community urged to take part in Pottstown childhood trauma initiative (VIDEO) - The Mercury - 7/25/16
“Do you know anyone who has been divorced? I bet most of us could say yes. That is a person or a family that has been impacted by trauma.”

Mary Rieck, coordinator for a Pottstown kindergarten readiness program called PEAK, opened a community meeting about childhood trauma explaining how common trauma is. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines trauma as a difficult experience that leads to mental and emotional problems. Rieck leads a committee called the Pottstown Trauma Informed Community Connection, which aims to bring awareness about the impacts of difficult childhood experiences and what can be done about it.
 
Focus on reducing childhood trauma in Pottstown - Reading Eagle - 6/12/16
Pottstown officials are taking steps to reduce instances of childhood trauma among students in the school district.

The topic was discussed during a roundtable at the Pottstown Early Action for Kindergarten Readiness, or PEAK, program's annual meeting at Montgomery County Community College. A program of the school district, PEAK partners with private child care locations to provide prekindergarten education to local students.

Pottstown celebrates children with healthy activities (VIDEO, PHOTOS) - The Mercury - 4/17/16
It was all fun and games for the more than 1,000 people that came out to a celebration of children at Pottstown High School Saturday.

Whether it was petting animals, jumping through obstacles or getting face paintings; the community got to be kids for one fun-filled afternoon. For the first time ever, PEAK’s Pottstown Celebrates Young Children event was combined with the Pottstown YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day.
 

Childhood trauma in Pottstown can lead to future health challenges - The Mercury - 7/2/16
A local initiative is bringing awareness to research that shows traumatic childhood experiences such as poverty, sexual abuse and drug addiction can lead to lifelong challenges in mental, social and physical health.

Representatives of the school district, borough and police department, as well as several other organizations, have come together to form the Pottstown Trauma Informed Community Connection. The steering committee was created to decrease some of the violent and chronic health issues in Pottstown that result from trauma experienced before the age of 18.
